Prompt me!

I'm so relieved to be out from under that project! I want to WRITE! At least drabbles. :-)

So give me a prompt and a fandom. I'm in the mood for fluff; gen or slash is fine. Night Vale, Sherlock, Tin Man, Rat Patrol, Barney Miller, any other fandom in which you know I've written. If you're not sure, feel free to ask.

Author's Note: Many thanks are due to Olivia (a.k.a. the REVELcon BDSM Goddess), whose comments on "Another Lifetime" gave me the idea for this sequel, and who was kind enough to read over a draft of this story, offering helpful details and valuable insights. Any remaining errors are my own.

Title: Winter
Author: Amedia
Fandom: Tin Man
Word Count: 200
Rating: G
Pairing: Glitch/Cain
Summary: There's too much snow.
Author's Note: Response to [livejournal.com profile] derien's request for a Glitch/Wyatt drabble involving winter, blue, or contentment (without necessarily using the actual words). I had them all in mind while writing this, but I think "winter" is the one that mostly came through. (Possibly because the reason I'm at home to write this is a snow day!)

Is it okay to rec something I beta'd? I hope so! I had the honor of beta-ing the first part of Blu's "Whispers at the Gate," which is cool and spooky and promising to such an extent that I broke my own never-read-WIPS rule and it was worth it! Here's the link: http://community.livejournal.com/tinman_fic/777461.html

Enjoy!

TODS was away at a conference last weekend so I picked a movie to watch that he wouldn't mind missing. Strangely enough, he did not grow up watching Josie and the Pussycats every Saturday morning during middle school like I did! So that was the movie I watched.

It was very cute. And Alan Cumming played a delightful villain who was named, of all things, Wyatt.* My ability to screencap died after just a couple (I *really* need to get the DVD drive fixed on this computer), but here's what I managed to grab, along with some comments on the movie! Read more... )

*Note to my very patient non-Tin-Man-familiar friends: Wyatt is the name given to the Tin Man in the miniseries of the same name; Alan Cumming plays the Scarecrow. You may have noticed that I have a predilection for fanfic involving the two.

There was a mini prompt-a-thon at [livejournal.com profile] dg_glitch so I put in a request - and [livejournal.com profile] jinma_chan wrote me the cutest story!

It's fluffy and sweet and has some wonderful neat little details.

If you need a photo-reference for young Ambrose looking woebegone, or if you just think Alan Cumming (or Lenny Henry) is cute, click below for screencaps from Bernard and the Genie (1991). (Warning: some spoilers.)

much adorableness )
amedia: (Boris)
A very sweet and funny Christmas movie starring a very young Alan Cumming. We got this one from the public television station.

I can understand why some people watch this every year! It has a wonderfully irreverent flavor and still manages to endorse the real meaning of Christmas - in its own anti-establishment way. Alan Cumming (Bernard) is adorable, Lenny Henry (the genie) is superb, the two of them have great chemistry together, and Rowan Atkinson is deliciously evil as the villain. The minor characters are also terrific; my favorite was the elevator-operator in Bernard's apartment building, who is constantly trying to cheer him up with whopping lies.

Here's 25-year-old Alan Cumming in 1991, looking rather like a Beatle circa 1964.
Lots more screencaps posted here. There are also some spoilers, but honestly, the joy of the movie isn't in the plot, it's in the wonderful interactions and the sheer glee of it all. And there are still some major plot points unrevealed.

[livejournal.com profile] koslorollo offered the prompt "After the witch melts from Azkadellia, the Longcoats turn back into toy soldiers, which is what they were to start with." I found myself wondering how that would fit in with the universe of her shimmering saga A Cold Wind Rising, in which she fleshed out a number of Longcoat characters (as well as other secondary characters) with backstories, relationships, hopes, and dreams. (The link doesn't work, but I'll replace it when I find one that does. That story made me laugh out loud, and it made me cry, and it seamlessly wove the author's creations and the canonical O.Z. into a living, breathing, multilayered world.) Anyway, here's how I responded to the prompt, keeping Zero's relationship with Malcolm Erdmyss in the aforementioned story in mind.

Holy crap! *points to subject line*

TODS is napping to the friendly noise of some game or other while I dink around on the computer, and I suddenly heard this familiar melody and began picturing the battered old formerly-yellow brick road, with "scene selection" and "setup" floating under it.

I don't mean that ESPN was playing it - like how you sometimes hear the Brisco County theme as a sporting event theme song - rather, it was being played by one of the college bands in the background as one of their random music-during-the-game moments. They've since switched back to the Imperial March (Darth Vader's theme) from Star Wars.
