Movie: Blood: The Last Vampire (TODS only)
We found a special issue of Cinescape from 2001 in the garage that included a roundup of the movies from the year. We had fun going through them and adding a bunch to our Netflix queue. The magazine strongly recommended this movie, a 48-minute anime from Japan, so we added it.
Netflix had it available for instant watching online, so TODS watched it last night while I was teaching (our first online movie - whee!).
TODS says he definitely enjoyed the movie and recommends it. He says, "I thought it was less a movie than, say, a two-part episode of a television series. You can tell a great deal has preceded and a great deal will follow. It was extraordinarily well done, but very linear--excellent in execution but not that sophisticated in plot or very deep in terms of concept."
In terms of its execution, Cinescape had said, "The film merges stylized cel animation seamlessly with CGI settings and effects." They also warned that it was very intense, too much so to make it any longer, but TODS didn't find it so. Still, he thought it was well worth the investment of time.
