A curious effect of losing one kitty

I knew that Cheshire groomed Dabi when she was alive; I thought it was primarily a gesture of affection. Huh-uh. She was obviously doing most of the work; without Cheshire, Dabi's fur quickly became matted and tangled. The hubby has taken over brushing Dabi daily, which is an amusing sight. He sits in his recliner with Dabi on his lap; when he starts brushing, Dabi elongates himself, tucks his head under the hubby's chin, and purrs. The hubby often claims that we only have kitties because *I* like them... watching him with Dabi, our son did a credible imitation of Spock from "The Trouble with Tribbles": "I know what Dad's saying - 'fortunately... I ... seem... to be... immune...'"

I know that situation. Doofus pretty much does all of Sammi's grooming for her as she's old and just doesn't care. Periodically, I take a cutter brush to her fur and she gets very excited about it. Weirdo cat.
