One reviewer called this a "joyless slog" and that was perfectly apt. It was long, dark (I mean, physically dark most of the time), and boring. The 3-D was ho-hum. I didn't think it would bear much resemblance to the original myth, which is good, because it bore virtually none, but I did think it would be a fun adventure romp, and it wasn't. The best thing about it was that we saw it with friends and got to dish together about how bad it was afterward.

We got five previews: The A-Team, Iron Man 2, Furry Vengeance, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and The Losers.

How did the A-Team look? Because I grew up with that cheese-fest of a fun show, and I am concerned about what people are going to do to it.

As near as I could tell, at least the preview seemed to be very much an homage. We see one of the characters tell B.A. "you seem to have a real bad attitude," which was almost subtle - I don't think people unfamiliar with the show would have gotten it - and we get to hear Hannibal saying that he loves it when a plan comes together.

But I've been fooled by great previews for bad movies in the past.

Oh, how I adored the original Clash of the Titans, with um... whatshisname, and Burgess Meredith, and the owl... was that from the early eighties?... I must've sat through that ten times. Did you ever see it? I mean, by today's standards it's pretty silly and the creatures look like modeling clay but back then it was something I enjoyed as a kid. Along with Beastmaster, which I also sat through ten times, but that was mainly because I had a crush on ...whatshisname... and there were animals. :D (to this day there are parts of that movie I've never seen because I always had to shut my eyes, there are a few icky moments.)
Today's films just can't replicate that original ... I want to say tackiness but I don't, it's too harsh... that ... glorious cartoonishness of the originals of that era. For this reason I will probably skip the A-Team.

I never saw the original Clash of the Titans except in bits and pieces on TV but it does look like fun!

There's a brief moment in the new movie where Perseus is rummaging around in a trunk full of weapons for stuff to bring with him and he pulls out THAT OWL and stares at it and it flaps its mechanical wings and another soldier comes by and says, "Leave it." Best moment in the ENTIRE MOVIE.

I loved Beastmaster! There really was something about those campy old movies, where it was like the director and everyone was laughing along with the audience rather than at them.

Ditto with kids' shows - a lot of the new CGI ones creep me out. Give me Gloop and Gleep and the other Herculoids any time!

Oh, that you for the review. I'll avoid. Watch the original if you can.

They're making (or have made then, I guess) about the A-Team? Why do I never hear these things? F-list talked about the Losers some weeks ago, no idea on that otherwise, and I'm extremely ambivalent on woshisname as the new Freddy for Elm Streets. Any views on how those looked? I see someone asked about the A-Team already, that is.

The Losers made it look fun, very glossy and sexy and high-tech.

I was impressed by the Nightmare on Elm Street preview; I don't usually like horror movies but the trailer, at least, was very well done. They set out to capture the way it feels when you're desperately trying to stay awake and you nod off for just a second - made me jump a couple of times! Didn't really see much of Freddy, though, except in silhouette or just barely glimpsed before the character woke up again.
