I took notes during this year's vid contest so I could write up a report. ( Here it is, while it's fresh in my mind! )
Taking advantage of being sick to catch up on movies we've watched recently. I keep thinking there should be at least one more, but these are the ones I can remember. ( Read more... )
Book: The Problem of the Surly Servant
Apr. 9th, 2011 07:35 pmThe fourth and, as of this writing, the last of Roberta Rogow's Charles Dodgson-Arthur Conan Doyle mysteries. I hope she writes more! I didn't love this one quite as much as the others, even though it was set at Oxford and involved Dodgson's photography as an important plot element. I'm not sure why, but some of it had that "must squeeze in all the research" flavor and wound up coming across as forced. It still had enough delightful bits to keep me going through it, and one of the very best opening lines I've seen in a mystery novel in a very long time:
Murder was not a part of the curriculum at any of the individual colleges that made up the University of Oxford.

A while back I bought some mysteries by Roberta Rogow at MediaWest*Con, and I've finally gotten around to reading them. ( Fun for fans of Holmes and fans of Alice! )
Movie: Alice in Wonderland (2010)
Oct. 3rd, 2010 02:18 pmThere were some parts of this movie that I liked extremely well, and others that I didn't - overall, I would still say that I enjoyed it quite a lot despite the flaws. Some curious feminist issues going on. (SPOILER ALERT)( here be spoilers )
GIP - SQUEEEEEEE!
Jan. 24th, 2010 02:01 pmI was lucky enough to win an auction on
help_haiti, where
naturalbluicons had offered five icons of the winner's choice.
I know blu likes working with Disney images, and as much as I love Alice in Wonderland in all its myriad forms, I didn't have any icons from the Disney version of Alice.
Now I have FIVE!!!!!!! ( click to see! )

I've responded to three prompts on
demilos_wagon so far. It's a great way to get writing, if anyone wants to join in! (hint, hint)

Alice vis-a-vis Tin Man
Dec. 8th, 2009 11:19 amComparisons may be odious, but they are also irresistible. Brief thoughts on the fanfic potential of the two series. ( spoilers ahoy! )

Book: The Looking Glass Wars
Aug. 21st, 2009 10:01 pmThis was fun! I collect weird editions of Alice in Wonderland - usually parodies or rewrites or pastiches - and this is a very enjoyable re-envisioning! A light, quick read, that will probably reward rereading. I aim to check out the sequels.
