So what is this DC-Slash Con that Amedia keeps babbling about?

It's an online fan convention that welcomes all sorts of fandoms. (The "DC" in the name is for Washington, DC; this con is a continuation of the in-person ConneXions, whose last incarnation was held for several years in the DC area.) This is the same DC-Slash group that hosts the free online binges that I post about ... er, when I remember.

DC-Slash Con also welcomes people from different parts of the world and strives to provide programming for whatever time zones people are in.

It costs a whopping $15 to sign up and there are scholarships available if that's too much. This Saturday's "binge" will be a tech day for folks who would like help learning to navigate an online convention.

This is the con with pimping slides, so people can pimp their favorite fandoms - and also shows slides with the fandoms from the vid show so viewers could have a chance to recognize the new fandoms they haven't seen before.

If you have any questions, you are very welcome to ask them here!!!

DC-Slash is an online convention coming up at the end of July. We still have ONE DAY for people to make panel suggestions (https://www.dcslash.org/dc-slash-con/programming) and I for one would LOVE to see MOAR Asian Drama-related suggestions!!!

I made a set of these a few years ago and lost them in a computer crash. So I made new ones, because this deliciousness needs to be shared!

The slides I made this year are a mixture of shows I really love and want to introduce to potential new fans, (Guardian and Ancient Detective) and shows that were in the vid show for which we didn't already have slides (all the other ones below).

I'm already starting on slides for DC-Slash Con 2025! The next ones I make will be for Sungkyunkwan Scandal; I had made a set using my old computer and didn't back it up to the external hard drive (oops) ... and then the old computer crashed so hard that it lost files I hadn't even written yet, lol.

Ancient Detective (link to another entry; will open in new tab)

Gollum )

The Case Files of Jeweler Richard )

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (focus on Captain America, Tony Stark, and Loki) )

Stargate (focus on SG-1 and SGA) )

White Collar )

Some of y'all may remember the Guardian Recruitment Slides I made a while back.

I'm at it again! Click to see Ancient Detective Recruitment Slides - to be shown at DC-Slash Con!

I have made two songvids for the upcoming DC-Slash online convention!!! (You can click for more info about the con - the link will open in a new window.)

The convention is July 19-21 and the vid show deadline is July 12, so I actually got my vids in ON TIME!

There's both short, and one of them is to a Wizard Rock song. In other words, they're by me. ;-)

One is for the fandom Tatort Muenster, while the other one is about Gollum. They're premiering at the con, so I can't link to them now. But I am very excited!!!

As seen at DC Slash and REVELCon!!!

Ker and Aaron of DC Slash encouraged members to make these powerpoints to recruit their fellow convention goers to their fandoms! They also sent us helpful templates. :-)

The recruitment slides were shown at various times throughout the DC Slash convention, and were a delight! I thoroughly enjoyed learning about potential new fandoms.

I showed my Guardian slides again at a REVELCon panel to convince my fellow RCon attendees to send slides of *their* fave shows to DC Slash, too. That's not to say that I didn't put my whole heart into this "sample" presentation and possibly convert a few people! ;-)

I plan to tweak them before they're shown again, mostly by increasing the font size on the dialogue captions.

The DC-Slash Con 2022 vid show, held last night (July 30, 2022), was truly a well-assembled collection of high-quality vids: kudos for Aaron for the terrific selection! SO many great vids, including several that made me want to start watching the show they were based on right now.

I had some favorites I'd like to mention--I'll write up something more comprehensive later, but I want to get some first impressions down now.

N.B. AARGH, I am going through the list and in order to keep this post reasonably doable tonight, I am skipping SO MANY EXCELLENT vids!!! These are not necessarily the best--they're the ones that made a big impression on me.

And there were many more wonderful vids that I hope to cover in a longer report someday soon!!!

I took notes for a vid show report, of course, but it'll be a while before I type it up. In the meantime, however, I just HAVE to squee about the vid that moved into my heart and took up residence.

Here's a link to the vid: Eternal Holmes by Diana Williams

Here's what I said about it on the AO3 page:

"This vid reminds me of the opening two lines of Vincent Starrett's famous poem 221B:

Here dwell together still two men of note

Who never lived and so can never die

The first time I watched this vid, I saw the "eternal flame" of love between Holmes and Watson. The second or third time, I also thought of the "eternal flame" of love that fandom has long held for those two--the first fanfic I ever read was a collection of Holmesian "pastiches"--and how beautifully you depict so many different variations on the beloved Canon, as fandom continues its love across centuries and continents. ♥ ♥ ♥

There were many fine vids in the DC Slash 2021 vid show, but this one stood out as my very favorite. Thank you so much for all the time and talent you put into it for us to enjoy!"

The DC Slash Con(formerly ConneXions) was held online this weekend, and a new vid of mine premiered in the vid show. The song is "The Court of the Crimson King," and the vid focuses on a single arc spanning roughly four episodes of Nirvana in Fire.

Here's the link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/33214480

I haven't actually finished watching Nirvana in Fire yet, largely because of all the traveling I've been doing lately, so please, no spoilers in comments!
amedia: (vids)
Here's a link to watch all the vids online - you can watch them all in a row, or click on individual vids to watch them separately: https://vimeo.com/showcase/8017846

The short version: I thoroughly enjoyed this vid show! I can't give the vidders the feedback they deserve on all of the vids, since I didn't know all the fandoms. But I was tickled that I did recognize more of the fandoms than usual, and the vids were great!

Come watch Ratties (and later, Gorillas) and make snarky/slashy comments! It's free, and the chatting is in a text window so you don't even have to comb your hair!

Copied from DCSlash:
Today, we will be fighting World War II during the DCSlash Gathering. We'll start in North Africa fighting alongside the Rat Patrol with their jeeps as they go up against the handsome and honorable Hauptmann Hans Dietrich. Then we will switch to the European Theater to go on special missions behind enemy lines with Garrison's Gorillas as this elite team of criminals works their way to freedom by doing missions for the Allies.

We start at 1:30 pm EST at https://app.kosmi.io/room/bzw8jx

Here's my write-up of the vid show at ConneXions 2017--25 vids' worth of slashy goodness! It's not friendslocked--feel free to share within fandom.

Some initial comments! I will happily sit and watch music videos in fandoms I don't follow, but I can't really review them. For this report, I'll try to say at least something about the vids where I have some limited knowledge of the source material, but this show had a lot of vids in fandoms I didn't even recognize and can't say anything meaningful about. I'd like to issue a challenge to the viewers who ARE familiar with those shows to step up and reward the vidders' efforts with comments!

Here's a link to where you can find most of the vids: ConneXions 2017 Vid Show Playlist.
