I got a marvelous surprise from the Sundial Exchange today--a treat! For me!

Gathering String by glymr and yue_ix

It was completely unexpected and I enjoyed it so, so very much!

Just to keep things in one place, here's the list from my previous post

I wrote Wait Seven Seconds for UndeadRobins.

I also wrote The Netwielder for Dorinda.

And I received The hard part is what comes easy from Dorinda! ♥

Update: I received another fic as a treat! More here: https://amedia.dreamwidth.org/469849.html

There was a fic I started reading on More Joy Day, but I didn't manage to finish it in time to comment & add it to the list on the day itself. So I'm adding it here as an addendum.

Fandom: the Dune universe (set during Dune: Messiah)
https://archiveofourown.org/works/12336306 "The wind blowing across our beach" by noxelementalist. Slash, Paul Atreides (Muad'dib)/ghola-Duncan-Hayt. A skillfully-written interaction that plays with identities, roles, memories, and longings.
Author's Summary: In which swords are dropped
amedia: Alan Cumming grinning happily with a rainbow design behind him and the caption "SQUEE!" in playful letters (Tin Man - Squee!)
I left detailed comments on fic, which is how I like to spread the joy! As a friend of mine recently said, feedback is like oxygen to writers. Or as another friend said many years ago, thoughtful feedback is like ice cream on a hot day. ♥

Here are links to the fics--well, three complete stories, one chapter of a WIP, and one poem--listed by fandom, plus brief non-spoilery comments along with the authors' summaries--you may find something that you'll enjoy, too!

I participated in a fannish charity auction a while back and one of the items I won was a fic by [personal profile] bemused_writer. It was completed & posted earlier this month and I ♥ it so much!!!

You can find it on AO3 here: The Waylaid Festival.

It's a marvelous gen/pre-slash (Lan Sizhui/Lan Wingyi) tale in which the ducklings go to a festival and get pulled unwittingly into an adventure. It's got humor, it's got idiots-in-love, it's got an actual plot with an interesting ghost problem, and in the background we glimpse Lan Wangji being Best Dad. It's set before Wei Wuxian's return, so the parts with Lan Wangji being a dad are melancholy, but also sweet. Highly recommended!!!

Here are the Rat Patrol fic recommendations I made for Fandom of the Week on DCSlash this week!

This way for yummy yummy fic )
amedia: The opening lines of the first Harry Potter novel in Latin with PUER QUI VIXIT added diagonally across it (The Boy Who Lived)
If I tell you what it is, you may go "WTF?" and not want to see it, as I almost did, but I did go see it and I'm glad I did! So let me just assure you that it is slashy but not porny, funny, sweet, and adorbs. It's basically a vertical comic strip. Go look!

This is desperately sad, but written with quiet brilliance, and ultimately . . . it reaffirms the best in human nature. The Great War and the influenza epidemic do not leave Holmes and Watson untouched: After, Ever After by [livejournal.com profile] rabidsamfan.
amedia: (I Spy)
So I was cruising the Person of Interest fic on AO3 and I ran into something unbelievable that made me . . . I think the word is sporfle . . . hysterically.

Let's just say . . . Mycroft Holmes and Harold Finch are related. As that woman in Help! kept saying to Paul, I can say no more. Mycroft's mother/Finch's aunt is one of my favorite fan-created characters evar. I can say no more. They are mildly pre-slashy, but if you don't like slash I don't think there's enough to bother you. I can say no more.

There are two short pieces published in the series so far. My favorite is the second. So far. Meet the Family.
amedia: Close up on young man looking at the camera (Kookie from 77 Sunset Strip). Caption: wanna play ... boy detective? (kookie)
The world of Sherlock Holmes fandom is frickin' enormous! There are stories and art and other fanworks based on various adaptations everywhere you look. So I'm not going to pretend to make recommendations as if I had read everything that's out there and these were the best - I'm just going to report on things that just stood out to me personally when I read them.

Two Sherlock (BBC) stories struck me recently as really, really enjoyable.

A is for Astronomy by [livejournal.com profile] janeturenne is a poetic 600-word ficlet that is dense with meaning all out of proportion to its brevity. Something about it reminds me of the best of Tin Man fanfic, though I'm not sure what.

Untitled present fluff by [livejournal.com profile] rabidsamfan is a delightful Christmas humor piece with great characterizations of both John and Sherlock.
amedia: Fancy black hat with yellow band and green feather on a pink background; caption PIMP HAT (Pimp Hat)
Is it okay to rec something I beta'd? I hope so! I had the honor of beta-ing the first part of Blu's "Whispers at the Gate," which is cool and spooky and promising to such an extent that I broke my own never-read-WIPS rule and it was worth it! Here's the link: http://community.livejournal.com/tinman_fic/777461.html

Enjoy!

There was a mini prompt-a-thon at [livejournal.com profile] dg_glitch so I put in a request - and [livejournal.com profile] jinma_chan wrote me the cutest story!

http://community.livejournal.com/dg_glitch/87077.html

It's fluffy and sweet and has some wonderful neat little details.
amedia: (Tin Man - Magic Mushrooms)
And this one is naughty! [livejournal.com profile] ladynyks answered my request for "Glitch/Cain: an explicit PWP involving any kind of food." It's less on the explicit side and more on the naughty/humorous side - fun and sexy! Here's the link: http://community.livejournal.com/demilos_wagon/12014.html?thread=163822#t163822

Or, if you haven't yet read the other two lovely prezzie-fics I've gotten, you can see all three of them here: http://community.livejournal.com/demilos_wagon/12014.html - and enjoy!
amedia: Alan Cumming grinning happily with a rainbow design behind him and the caption "SQUEE!" in playful letters (Tin Man - Squee!)
Every once in a while I would think, "Alas! I have never been recced on [livejournal.com profile] thegraygale! Woe is me." And then I would forget about it again. It would always make me a little sad, but I wasn't going to *say* anything because the last thing I would have wanted was a pity rec. So I made a point, when it was my turn, to hunt up rec-worthy stories by people who hadn't been recced yet, and *that* made me happy even without--oh, who am I kidding. It *did* make me feel better, but not as much as THIS!!!!!

I GOT RECCED!!!! For the porniest bit of porn I have ever written in my entire life (I'm usually a fade-to-black kinda girl). And I got a new comment on the story as a result! *dances happily*
amedia: Very small gray kitten with white paws asleep in a pink blanket. (Baby Pom)
*incoherent flail*

[livejournal.com profile] luchia13 wrote me a drabble! And it is full of cutezor and awesome. I can't tell you the prompt I gave her - the game is to guess. Here's the story: http://luchia13.livejournal.com/159167.html#cutid3
amedia: (dangerous Moffitt)
[livejournal.com profile] rh_andi wrote a Rat Patrol ficlet for me! And it's *delightful*. And very Moffitt-y (she knows what I like!). You can find it here - Enjoy!!!!
amedia: (Bones)
The drabble I requested from [livejournal.com profile] gblvr, in consequence of which I posted the drabble meme earlier, may be found here. Bring an electric fan or an icy drink, though, because it is HOT! And brilliant. She manages to make Spock and McCoy slashy and still bickering.
amedia: (Tin Man yin/yang)
[livejournal.com profile] settiai, whom I met way back in Barney Miller fanfic, is now writing Tin Man! Squee! Go encourage her! http://settiai.livejournal.com/1019886.html
