The world of Sherlock Holmes fandom is frickin' enormous! There are stories and art and other fanworks based on various adaptations everywhere you look. So I'm not going to pretend to make recommendations as if I had read everything that's out there and these were the best - I'm just going to report on things that just stood out to me personally when I read them.

Two Sherlock (BBC) stories struck me recently as really, really enjoyable.

A is for Astronomy by [livejournal.com profile] janeturenne is a poetic 600-word ficlet that is dense with meaning all out of proportion to its brevity. Something about it reminds me of the best of Tin Man fanfic, though I'm not sure what.

Untitled present fluff by [livejournal.com profile] rabidsamfan is a delightful Christmas humor piece with great characterizations of both John and Sherlock.

Two excellent recommendations! Once you see the BBC series I suggest rereading the first one ;)

Heee! The first one wouldn't've made any sense, I suspect, if I hadn't seen the last episode before reading it; it's so deeply intertextual.

So glad you liked both recommendations!!!! Did you have a chance to look at the piece that natlyn recommended earlier? (The rec is here (http://amedia.livejournal.com/282157.html?thread=1637165#t1637165).) I loved it and it's even got a sequel!

Also, if you look right below this comment, mellifluous ink has left a rec - I haven't read it yet, but it has an intriguing title!

That rec "Here, Our Minutes Grow Hours" is amazing. I don't think I've ever read any other fandom piece that has so much excellent dialogue. This writer gives us full conversations. I am truly impressed.

Where is the sequel? Also I have looked and see no "meliflous ink" listed in your posts so also could not find the intriguingly titled rec.

As I suspected your recommendations are rich, dense and sharp. Thank you!

*nodnod* It really does; I could hear the characters' voices very clearly.

Here's the direct link to mellifluous ink's rec: here (http://amedia.livejournal.com/285364.html?thread=1657780#t1657780). (This links to mel's response listing the fic title - I don't think it actually contains a direct link to the story, but I'll post it when I have a chance to find it, unless you find it first. *grin*)

Another thank you! I had read one other piece by that writer and forgotten to bookmark the site. Finding a good read is so satisfying.

May I recommend [livejournal.com profile] woe_in_a_hoodie's Two Tins of Beans, Half a Dozen Eggs, Tomatoes universe? It's really lovely.
