In the morning I got to see two of Lorelei's three kitties: Ginger, who stood with her paws up on my lap and made welcoming sounds, and one of the two red tabbies (I can't tell them apart unless I see both of them). Lorelei drove me over to Dee's house at 9:00, and then Dee and I went over to Erika's house, just a couple of blocks away, to see a LOTR vid and meet Gollum. The vid, about Aragorn, Boromir, and the Ring, to a song by A-Ha called "You Wanted More," was very good; I also saw a vid Erika did for MWC about Helm's Deep, to a song by Bob Catley, a sort of original filk, about Helm's Deep. And I met Gollum - that is, a lifesize figure of Gollum that Erika bought from a friend who won it in a raffle. Startlingly realistic, he would have been pretty scary if Erika hadn't added a Santa hat! I also met Robin, Erika's adolescent kitten, and Vapor (short for Vaporware) a gorgeous adult Russian Blue.

Because Leah couldn't make it from Austin, I was asked to fill in for her on a Sunday panel, "Pre-Net Fan Goddesses." My co-panelists were Candy, the originator of REVELcon, and Beth. I was afraid the panel would devolve into an attack on the evils of the Internet, but I was pleasantly surprised that it turned out to be a very enjoyable hour of reminiscing about fandom in the olden days. I was transported back to the days of scouring Universal Translator, Datazine, and GAZ (Generic Ad Zine) to find out about new zines and used-zine sales; the days of writing actual letters and waiting for the Post Office to deliver responses; the days when fandom was smaller and harder to find, but closer-knit.

Many years ago when I first started going to REVELcon, one of the unshakable staples of the weekend was lunch out with Kris and Heidi, a couple of Houston fen. Over the last few years our schedules weren't always compatible, but this year we did it. Okay, we didn't actually get there until 3 p.m., and we went along with seven other people, but we did it! A whole group of us wrapped up our con activities by heading to a place on Main Street called Baytown Seafood. The food was great and the company even better. Although I could have driven, Beth gave me a ride, and even took me by Third Planet, a comic book and science fiction superstore, on the way back to the hotel to pick up some comic book bags to bring home.

I drove home after lunch, a much easier drive than the drive down, and was delighted to see the hubby. Much to my surprise and delight, he had done most of the remaining work on the futon, and had completely assembled a nifty Ikea TV stand! Our two cats were very happy to see me and followed me around the house, mewing and purring and generally making nuisances of themselves; it was good to be home.
