amedia: GIF with three images, one each from I Spy, Rat Patrol, and Emergency, with ODD LITTLE FANDOMS across the top of each (odd little fandoms)

The first fandom in which I participated whole-heartedly on the Internet was Emergency!, which unfortunately had an pretty low signal-to-noise ratio. When a gem came along, though, it shone out like the Arkenstone in Smaug's cave, to mix Kant and Tolkien. :-)

I forget how I discovered inkling's series of stories fleshing out the character of Mike Stoker, but I was ever-so-glad that I did. She managed to keep the characters in-character while presenting a serious, human take on the show, where people acted like grownups and led realistic lives with realistic joys and heartaches. (The closest parallel I can think of is the way Cindy Walker, a.k.a. [livejournal.com profile] st_crispins, writes M.U.N.C.L.E.) The stories were written in a style that had a serene grace even during the action scenes. She introduced OC's who did what OC's should do: they brought the reader new insights into our heroes without displacing them on the stage.

Most of the stories are here:

Scroll down to "inkling," about halfway down the page.

And one of them is here:
