An amazing wonderful thing - for me, at least - happened while I was staying at Lorelei's house in Houston. I started writing again. She had left a pen on the nightstand and I had brought a notebook as usual, though without much hope - I hadn't written anything since last June. I had an idea Friday night - not much of one, just a fragment of a scene - and I picked up the pen and began writing it down. I had no idea where it was going; I just wanted to write. I added more the next night, and a little more the next, and so on, and it began to take direction. One of these days it'll be an actual story. I asked Lorelei if I could keep the pen, as a sort of good-luck charm, and she said yes.

I was also talking over some stories that I've been stuck in the middle of for a long time with Carol, and she gave me some wonderful suggestions that may help to unstick both of them. It was an incredibly productive time, fanfic-wise. I can't describe how good it feels to be writing again; it's like finding something that I didn't realize was lost until I found it and realized that there had been a gaping void.

Saturday night at Lorelei's we watched a bizarre variety of things. I showed the clip from 77 Sunset Strip with Kookie and Roscoe that I described in an earlier post, and there was appropriate squealing when Kookie mentioned playing "boy detective" with Jeff, and when Roscoe invited him to climb into bed. We also watched an incredibly bad gay porn video called "Club Men" and provided running commentary, mostly centering on how the scenes would be different if they had been written by slashers. More dialogue, more eye contact, more foreplay... There was one truly amazing sex scene, though, in which the man on top was doing push-ups while being fellated by the man on the bottom, who was lying flat on his back partly supporting the man on top's legs. The motion of the push-ups provided the in-and-out action of the fellatio. Does that make sense? We figured that no slasher would ever include that in a story because (a) it's too hard to describe clearly and (b) no one would believe it. Then we settled in for an episode of "The Virginian," which I'd never seen and found enjoyable.

When my film gets developed, I have to post a picture of Bawb, the ugliest cat I have ever seen, as well as one of the friendliest. He belongs to Connie and Leah and Vivian and slept with me the night I was at their house. Like most of their kitties, he is a rescued stray, and when found had lost much of his fur to malnutrition, and lost more of it to the vet's razor because it was hopelessly tangled. He is a Persian with many of the worst qualities that breeders have introduced: runny eyes, a squashed-looking nose, a mouth that won't close properly. His face and back are furry; the rest of him looks like a Sphinx cat, with no fur at all until you get to his paws, where he has little tufts like a poodle. His fur is white and his skin is very light and when I first saw him walking across a white floor, his legs and lower body more or less disappeared so that he looked like half a cat floating along on antigravs. He is a total lap cat - very sweet and affecionate. After a while, I decided he was SO ugly that he's cute.
