Book: Lieutenant Hornblower
Aug. 1st, 2008 09:26 pmFinally broke down and bought Midshipman Hornblower some months ago when I realized that I wasn't going to find our copy any time soon, and I really wanted to read it. Enjoyed it a lot. Found a copy of Lieutenant Hornblower at a used bookstore during our most recent trip to Houston and just finished that. Very enjoyable!
I've seen/heard versions of the events described in that book (it's the one with the mad captain who falls down the hatchway) on A&E and on two different sets of radio-theater recordings. It was nifty to read the original at last. And I didn't realize the whole thing was told from Bush's POV, which sometimes lent remarkable insight, sometimes delightful humor.
We've got all the rest, I think, so I'll be reading Hornblower and the Hotspur next. I know I should be reading Highly Worthwhile Serious books that I have on the pile, like The Kite Runner or Inkheart, but I don't feel like it. This is what I feel like, so this is what I'm reading. Darnit. :-)

Date: 2008-08-02 01:49 pm (UTC)I'm not reading Kite Runner, for various reasons, most having to do with the fact it's one of those "must read" books. Just say "No?" Youngling loved Inkheart, wants me to read it, but I'll probably wait for it to be mangled in a movie with gratuitous Brendan Fraser scenery.
If you like Hornblower....
