Geeky question

I have a friend who wants to have his own domain - he doesn't have dreams of becoming a master webhost or anything, he just wants his website to be www.hisownname.com instead of yahoo.com/hisname or whatever.
Can anyone recommend a good company through which to acquire one's own domain? Can anyone steer him away from BAD companies from which one should *not* attempt to acquire a domain?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Date: 2004-05-10 09:25 am (UTC)Both dotster.com and directnic.com charge about $15/year for the domain name, I notice. Dotster has a discount for multiple years, which is cool, but for some reason they charge a lot more for webhosting ($10/month vs. $15/year).
Do you have to host your site at the same service that you get the domain name from?
