Question: Icons in Firefox

Given that Internet Explorer is Evil, and Mozilla Firefox is Good, why do my icons look like crap in Firefox? Do they look that crappy to everyone who uses Firefox, and you guys are just too nice to tell me?


Hopefully you'll be able to see this correctly even if you're using Firefox; if both sides look the same, I beg you to log out and use a different browser so you can see the difference.







Not all the icons in this strip are affected, but the ones with black lettering or any significant amount of black in the background look as if Firefox just can't "see" the black. What's up with that? Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone have a solution?

I know, mine are fine. I don't know what the deal is, but I looked at your icons, and I'm seeing the same things you are. What program did you use to make them?

I'm using Firefox 3.0.3, btw.

Mostly iPhotoPlus, which no one else in the entire world seems to use - it came free with a scanner I bought several years ago.

Recently I'm trying to do them all in Photoshop as a way to force myself to learn how to use it. So far - just looking at the latest ones - I haven't made any in Photoshop with black lettering, so I can't tell whether the same thing would happen.

I don't know if it could be that, but none of the ones I have with black lettering are showing up like that, and I use the GIMP. =\

OK, I just redid one I did a while back for an icon contest, this time using Photoshop. It has black lettering - how does it look?

(P.S. How the heck do you get fonts small enough in Photoshop? The smallest it would go was 6 points and that was too big for a 100x100-pixel pic; I wound up using the larger base and then shrinking everything, which surely isn't optimal.

Maybe it's something with the newest version of Firefox, because I remember seeing several of those icons before - and I always use Firefox - and they never looked like that before.

Huh. Your icons do look funky when I look at them in FF, but I haven't noticed it before. I've updated to FF3 - maybe that has something to do with it?

Also, even when they look weird, they're fine when I copy and paste them into PSP. So that's . . . really odd.

I can see the difference in the two sets of icons you've posted, but I haven't noticed it in your icons when you're posting.

I don't have a clue what's causing it. How annoying! I hope the solution you found works.
