You know the "pants" word-substitution game that has given us classics like the following?

LOTR: "Gondor has no pants! Gondor needs no pants!"

and

SW: "I find your lack of pants disturbing."

koslorollo observed recently that we haven't played that game yet in Tin Man fandom, so I posted about it here on loltinman, whereupon much hilarity ensued.

Then I was looking at my regular mail today and I had an ad from an online clothing retailer whose subject line said, "PANTS STARTING AT $14.99" and I immediately began trying to retro-engineer the sentence to figure out what word it *used* to begin with. Then I realized it was actually about pants. *foreheadsmack*

Isn't it great! To make it even funnier, it got its start among people using Commonwealth English (UK et al), to whom "pants" means UNDERPANTS!!!! Bwah hah hah hah!

Rotfl! I didn't know how the pants game got started. I thought it was an invention of my friend Marc, especially since his lj handle refers to kilts, which, as you know, are worn without pants. *chuckle*
