It took a while for Shaun of the Dead to get started, but it was a lot of fun once the zombies showed up! Although the first half-hour was a bit slow, I really liked the way that there were many scenes filmed so that ordinary people who were tired, zoned out, or whatever, *looked* like zombies for a moment until you realized they weren't. Also in the beginning, the characters' lives were portayed as so bleak and dead-end that TODS and I had two reactions: (1) They live in LONDON! Where the BRITISH MUSEUM is! How can they possibly be BORED? (2) I have to credit this one to TODS - he observed that their lives are so empty that fighting the zombies is actually an improvement, which is actually pretty cool. The trivia section on the IMDB page for this movie has a lot of great tidbits of information.

Game 6, about a playwright worrying about a critic reviewing his play the same night the Red Sox play the Mets in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series, was a dull and pretentious movie about extremely annoying people. It was well-acted, which just made the people more successfully annoying. I sorta liked the radio traffic report guy whose voice we heard periodically, who talked about everything *except* the traffic - his rambling commentary reminded me a tad bit of Ken Nordine's word jazz.

I wish I had time to watch as many movies as you do, my friend! Shaun of the Dead sounds totally fun. Thanks for the warning about how the film takes its time establishing things. I utterly agree with you about boredom and the British Museum–it's one of my dream museums to visit.

And, thanks for the tip about Ken Nordine and word jazz.

What we're basically doing is taking the time we used to spend watching various forms of Star Trek or Highander or whatever else we used to watch on TV, and we're watching chunks of movies instead. There's just not very much on TV that we're watching these days!

Al loves Shaun of the Dead. I think she's seen it about 12 times on Comedy Central.

I've seen snatches, but not enough to hold my interest and make me curl up to watch it.

It's a fun flick.

Miss you this weekend! Not seeing you & the gang is what I miss most about MW*C. :-(

Yeah, I'm sad you're not coming too. I don't think Carol is either though. I was going to buy a membership but decided I really needed to stay home and spend time with Alex and the new pooch instead. Being in Chicago three days a week, I didn't think it fair to her that I then say, "gonna be gone and busy all weekend too."

Next year we'll do it for sure!

Kissies.

This movie is even better if you watch it a second time because you notice a lot of foreshadowing and many of the Londoners in the opening credits show up later in the movie.

I noticed a bit of that when we were watching the deleted scenes - there were some lines that we had noticed the first time around ("Next time I see you, you're dead!") but some others that we *hadn't* noticed.

We're still watching In Plain Sight, btw. It's turning into the West Wing reunion show, but I'm liking it more and more as it goes along.
