The activities for "retarded" people is a horrible reminder of the old days.
So is the hair curling book, but as many pointed out, the method is stil very much in use. Not everyone can use a curling iron. [my mother still uses curlers]

*nodnod* I was looking for something else at the drugstore the other day and noticed that they were selling packages of curlers. Somebody must be buying them.
Personally, I avoid hair styles requiring hair rollers. The remarks on hair curling reminded me of a story. Many, many years ago, I tried to cut B's hair using a library book on hair cutting. I followed the directions faithfully, too. The results were awful. I became convinced that hair stylists are magicians, and hair cutting is an act of sacrificial magic because of that experience.
Libraries are awesome places! B found a classic text on catapults in one lately for some gaming research he was doing. I have found obscure novels by famous authors in them. The really popular books get stolen here in San Diego, unfortunately, so the obscure things get left behind.
