[livejournal.com profile] theemdash turned me on to these. (This is ALL YOUR FAULT, Em!) I should warn you, gentle f-list, that these can be highly addictive!

At http://wordle.net, there is a program that takes any text you give it and turns it into pretty "word clouds" in which words are sized according to frequency. (It ignores extremely common words like "the.") It's fun to plug in one's stories, for example, and see what comes up. You can play with the settings to change the color and arrangement. I've been attending conventions for years, and I plugged a couple of con reports into Wordle to see what would happen. It's one thing to read the reports and get an overall sense that I used to spend a lot of time describing specific events, and now I put more emphasis on people; it's another thing to have visual confirmation.
