Remember that scene in Sleepless in Seattle where the heroine and her friend are watching Affair to Remember and sobbing? Neither of those movies (Sleepless in Seattle or Affair to Remember) made me cry, but this one - Up - did. Twice. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it a great deal!

ME TOO. I'm not a movie crier. Hell, half the time I ~laugh~ at the times when others are weeping.

SPOILERS:
But UP. Yes. First time was when Elie died. Second time was when Carl was looking through the photo album later in the movie and found the additional pages. The line at the bottom of the last page - "Thanks for the adventure. Now go have a new one." Or something. That kills me ~every time~. It's just - it SCREAMS "Tin Man" and "OZ" and all of that. The whole adventure thing. GUH.

First time was when Elie died.

For me it was just before - when he finally bought the tickets and she was too frail to go. *bawls*

Second time was when Carl was looking through the photo album later in the movie and found the additional pages.

There's one time when he's looking and he stops just before the additional pages - I think that's what got me. Or it might've been this one. Oh, no, it was this one because I started tearing up just now trying to type this sentence! Her idea that the life she shared with him was a sufficient adventure in itself ... (which really should've raised my hackles at some level, but ohhhhh).

It's just - it SCREAMS "Tin Man" and "OZ" and all of that. The whole adventure thing. GUH.

Oh! What a cool connection! I never thought of that, but it makes sense. *dances you*

*dances happily* Totally. Just that one line - "thanks for the adventure" - would be something Glitch would write to Wyatt in some context or another. He would be the only one among them who saw it as an adventure, and not just a necessary journey or a means to an end. I'm picturing Glitch in that forest scene when he's dancing around in circles, bantering back and forth with Wyatt and trying to keep up despite his distraction. (And doesn't that just remind you of Russell? *grin*)

Goodness I cried so much during that movie. (Half of it was tears of laughter, but the other half... definitely crying.) So good!

So good!

Indeed! And I just recommended it to a friend who is a dog lover. Because it is SO TRUE, everything about dogs in it, and so loving.

I made the mistake of watching Up with a married couple who are very good friends of mine. They're in their late 40's, and have been inseparable since they were 14. The man's personality is spot-on Carl, and the woman's is very similar to Elie, just a little more cynical. They tried several times to have children but are unable to have them. Needless to say, they sobbed (yes, both of them) through most of the movie, especially when Elie died. It was pretty awful, because I knew exactly what they were thinking.

Despite all the sobbing, we all agreed that it was a pretty darn good movie.

That one scene where they go from painting the nursery to getting the news in the doctor's office ... THUD. So well done with no dialogue.

Despite all the sobbing, we all agreed that it was a pretty darn good movie.

My thoughts exactly!

First ten minutes of Up? Gigantic emotional roller coaster. I laughed harder then I had laughed in a long time and then I came very close outright sobbing, but kept it to shakey tears as I was in a theater. There were other parts where I cried too, but those first minutes... Wow.

First ten minutes of Up? Gigantic emotional roller coaster.

Well put!

I came very close outright sobbing, but kept it to shakey tears as I was in a theater.

I just ... sniffed and wobbled a lot and could not talk. "Wow" is exactly the right word!

I thought that film had one of the most tender marital relationships I've ever seen and it was done so beautifully! I was completely taken by surprise.

I'm in love with the bird :)

It was a really grown-up element - in a good way - that surprised me, to find in a kids' movie.

I'm in love with the bird :)

YES! Oh, yes.
