I just found out LJ was down recently - I didn't know, because my home computer has been down! Don't know what's wrong with it. Thought it was the hard drive, computer shop says the hard drive is fine, so they have to figure out what else could be wrong. Could be a few days. AAARGHHH!

Oh, and I need to scrub my subconscious, please. We rented a movie last night that was supposed to be a blend of "science fiction and suspense," called Event Horizon. Eeeeewwwww. It was basically a really bad horror movie along the lines of Hellraiser - lots of icky gore. A lot of the icky bits were in quick jumpy montages, either hallucinated by the characters or viewed by them on a damaged recording, so the viewer just got glimpses of horrible things. After I went upstairs, my husband rewound to the icky bits and went through them on slow-mo to see what was really in there. I came down to get something and he said, "You don't want to come in here." He didn't tell me until the next day what some of the stuff was, and I'm not telling you.

I said to him, "The part where we find out what really happened to the crew - I found that really scary, even though, looking back on it, a lot of it didn't make sense." You know how usually, in a bad horror movie, when you figure out the great whacking holes in the plot, the movie doesn't scare you as much? Well, I couldn't shake this really creeped-out feeling. So he told me a little bit - I still think he's holding back - about the stuff that flashed by too quickly to see consciously. So that's why I felt so creeped-out - the director apparently realized that the movie was too stupid to scare people directly, so he decided to bypass the conscious mind and go straight for the subliminal effect. I feel cheated, and in a strange way, violated.

Now that I know about it, I feel resentful rather than scared. But I totally do NOT recommend this movie!
