ETA The tape is out - but the poor Go-Video is now just a rather boxy VCR. It wasn't just this tape - that deck simply doesn't recognize *any* tape. I sincerely doubt it's worth fixing! Time to look for a new one, I fear.

There's a tape stuck in the top bay of my Go-Video. The machine simply doesn't seem to realize there's a tape in there; not only will it not eject, it won't play, rewind, or fast-forward, and perhaps most telling of all, it won't change from the clock to the counter when that deck is selected.

It's an old Go-Video; I've had it for nine or ten years, but it's never had any kind of problem like this. It's also an old tape; it was a 49-cent rental from Blockbuster.

I can't bring it over to [livejournal.com profile] keikokin's house to have her wonder-hubby look at it (pout) *[note: this is NOT the primary reason I miss her!], I can't find the manual and I'm having trouble downloading the manual from the manufacturer's website.

If this was an old Macintosh I'd straighten out a paper clip - is there a similar trick for coaxing a tape out of a VCR?

I ran downstairs and asked the hubster. He said the only thing he knows to do is to disconnect the VCR and take the top of it off. A repair shop will do the same thing and charge you $25 - $30 when all you need is a screwdriver. We have a lot of really old video tapes, so it's happened that they've gotten stuck. Good luck!

Thank you so much!

Why does this not surprise me? [grin]

Hubby managed to waggle the tape out with a screwdriver and a mini-crowbar without actually opening the unit.

I would say it's time for a new one. Glad to know that he was able to get the tape out, though.

Hiya,
Can you see I don't get to read the posts much. Sorry about that...anyway did you get the tape out? If not WonderHubbytm might be able to walk you through how to get it out. I miss you too.
*hugs*

Okay when the comment posted I saw you got it out. Way to go SirO. Wouldn't you know we are finally having that yard sale and it won't stop raining. I'm trying to get some work days in again, but only got two in all week. Fiddlesticks! I did find your Sentinel blooper tapes!! So you made me smile! You wouldn't happen to recall where you got those would you? They were in perfect condition. Humph, Texas really is very far away somedays. I still hope to see you the next East Coast slash con.
