Movie: Dilwale Dulhanie Le Jayenge
May. 7th, 2013 08:41 pmFun and fluffy Bollywood movie! Starring Shahrukh Khan (no surprise there), Kajol, and Amrish Puri as the girl's very strict father. The latter looked familiar, so I looked him up - he was Kiran's very strict father-in-law in Mohabbatein - he was also the leader of the evil cult in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom! During his big showdown with SRK near the end, I kept expecting him to reach into the latter's chest and pull out his beating heart, but he never did.
SRK looks very young and winsome in this movie, even with a mullet:

Great songs, including one - Mehndi Lage Ke Rakhna ("Henna") - that I had already bought because I liked it so much on Pandora; didn't realize it was from this movie!
Here it is on YouTube:

Date: 2013-05-10 04:33 pm (UTC)At the end of the song, you probably noticed everyone is a little nervous when the father shows up as if they're afraid he'll be a killjoy - but then he sings a lovely song to his wife and everyone is happy again. It's very sweet.
(Of course, none of these people are actually singing--it's an established convention in Bollywood movies that everyone is lip-synching, and the most popular "playback singers" are stars in their own right. They don't even bother to have the same playback singer for the same character in different songs in the same movie!)
I have *got* to watch another Bollywood film again. Maybe this summer … after I move.
That's the thing, idinit? It's such a huge time commitment! We only manage to do it by watching them in chunks.
