Book: The Sisterhood by Helen Bryan

Slogged through this tragedypornfest for the book club. Cardboard characters, lame and sloppy plot. Overall message is one I've seen on an appalling T-shirt: "Boys are icky. Throw rocks at them."

If a man wrote a book that carried the message, "Women are icky. Throw rocks at them.", he would be condemned as sexist. It doesn't seem to go that way for women, nowadays.

There was some good stuff in the novel, but it got buried under the propaganda.

While I tend to agree with the sentiment, I agree that it does not warrant a book.

I would expand it to "People are icky," however.

That's too bad. I had played around with putting it on my to-be-read-at-some-vague-point-in-the-future-when-I-want-a-mainstream-novel list.

I can't say a lot more about why it's disappointing without major spoilers, but I was *seriously* disappointed. :-(

I guess the bright side is, it was a very long book, so if you don't read it, you'll save a lot of time to spend on better novels.
