Thanksgiving Story |
Harris reacts when Wojo tells him he needs a girlfriend. |
Harris is going on about how he feels confined. "I need to go abroad." Wojo says, "You need to get one." "How provincial," Harris sniffs. |
The Tunnel | After a frustrating stakeout together, Dietrich invites Harris to move in with him. |
The beginning of Yenta Barney; he definitely gets the slashy lines here! (Such as, "Gentlemen, can we get back to work? I'm sure you'll have plenty of opportunities to be together.") He also appears very amused by the situation. |
The Bank | Harris agrees to move in with Dietrich. | Dietrich's confession would be even more touching if it wasn't also deliberately manipulative. He's figured out that Harris is like a cat: call him and he won't come, but walk away pretending disinterest and he runs after you. Barney plays yenta again, very subtly. |
The Ghost | Harris is cute when he's exasperated. | We know from "The Bank" that Harris is sleeping on a spare bed, but TV Land didn't include that one in its marathon; thus, it was somewhat startling when Harris claimed to have gotten up from "the wrong bed period." (Barney observes that Harris is crabby and asks if he got up on the wrong side of the bed that morning.) |
Hostage | (1) Roz is puzzled by H&D's rapport. (2) Harris explains that he's moving out (3) Harris thanks Dietrich for letting him stay. |
#2 gives us Yenta Barney again: Harris really doesn't seem to realize that Dietrich is going to miss him, and Barney quotes a love song to help him understand. |
Identity | Harris is exasperated again, this time because Dietrich has saved his life. | Appeals to those of us with a bickering kink. Besides, he really is cute when he's exasperated. |
The Bird | (1) Dietrich doesn't want to sign a release for Harris' book. (2) Harris asks Barney to intervene. (3) Harris gets Dietrich to sign. |
#2: Yenta Barney finally pushes Harris out of the nest. #3: I just love Dietrich's (non-verbal) reaction to Harris' "I need you." Dietrich looks startled; Harris realizes how he sounded and rephrases it. Harris goes on for a bit about how he gets wrapped up in himself, doesn't pay attention to other people, and so on, and speaks quite differently than normal – this is the "stammering sincerity" I used in one of the stories. |
The Desk | Dietrich pranks Harris with an acupressure technique. | This happens in two scenes, and I could have clipped out the one in-between but I couldn't resist leaving Wojo & Mr. Leskil in. |
The Judge | Harris invites Dietrich to dinner. | They go out after work fairly often, actually, but this one has a nice double-entendre. [Harris: "Do you want to get a bite, Arthur?" Dietrich: "Yeah, but why don't we eat first."] |
Old Flame | Dietrich kisses an old girlfriend. | Harris' reaction is hard to describe as anything but jealousy. "Oh, I find that distasteful," he says to Wojo. "I bet he's got his eyes open. |
Obituary | H&D bring in an obituary writer and his assailant. | Usually the detectives stand with the suspect and victim; for some reason, H&D go off by themselves and sit on Yemana's desk looking cute together. |
The Search | Harris' turn in drag knocks everyone out | The slashy moment everyone seems to remember: Dietrich's "Laura" analogy. Harris looks absolutely gorgeous. Dietrich asks him if he's familiar with the movie "Laura": "It's about a police detective who falls in love with a woman he can never have." |
