Can I come up with 10?

Top Ten Signs you're reading a story by Amedia:
10. The story may contain arcane cultural references.
9. If it's more than two pages long, it's been edited to a fare-thee-well by The Live-In Beta Reader and probably rewritten multiple times.
8. The characters never, ever use the word "relationship," even in thoughts. Because, you know, they're guys.
7. All the sex is offscreen. Well, almost.
6. The tone of the story matches the original as closely as possible; when possible, so do the setting, dialogue, and even the plot.
5. The characters in the pairing do a lot of dancing around each other before they get to down to anything romantic.
4. Characters don't admit they love each other until the third or fourth story, even if they have sex in the first one.
3. It's in a teeny fandom with readership in the dozens, or a larger fandom where most people prefer another pairing.
2. If it's in Rat Patrol, you haven't seen it unless you read fanzines.
And the number one sign you're reading a story by Amedia:
1. It usually contains a Dietrich, but not always the *same* Dietrich.

Date: 2006-01-21 02:20 pm (UTC)It'd probably be easier for me to think of "Top Ten Signs you're reading a fan story by me," than trying to think of non-fanfic signs (I come up with things like: There are Romans; There are Romans with post-Roman technology; There are complex Latinate words; The sentences are too long, and a bit Latin-y; There are disparaging references to Octavian; No one's gender is quite what it seems, and the readers are irritated; Someone is depressed; And also, there are Romans.)
Fanfic signs would be different. For your bemusement, I present my variation on Amedia's Ten:
10. The story definitely contains arcance cultural references. Probably to Romans.
9. It's more than two pages long. It's probably more than 20 pages long. But it doesn't want to fit into any normal length (too long for short, too short for long).
8. No one's sexuality is quite what it seems, and the main character wouldn't mind a relationship with someone. But the other guys, you know, probably don't want to talk about it.
7. All the sex is offscreen, except when my editor makes me put a scene in the middle of a story, and then I am embarrassed for the rest of my life.
6. The tone of the story is my fantasy of what the show should have been like.
5. People misunderstand and mischaracterise one another and make too many assumptions and nobody gets it right.
4. What's love got to do with it? Well, eventually they'll figure that out. But it still probably won't work. And sometimes it will be too late. Tragedy will occur.
3. It's in a teeny fandom! Hurrah for teeny fandoms! But the story will try its best to make sense to non-fans.
2. If you've seen it, please forget about that one sex scene. But that's not really a sign, so... uhm... It's highly likely to be non-linear.
And the number one sign:
1.Moffitt is not just British, but also kinda crazy. Sometimes in a good way. Sometimes not so much.
How's that?
P.S.
