amedia: Fractal burst of white, blue, and red with sparkles of light here and there (colorful fractal)

[livejournal.com profile] meritahut recommended this to me a while back and I'm very glad to have finally read it. It's a very thinky book that absolutely oozes love of the written word like nothing I've read since Parnassus on Wheels, plus it has a very philosophically interesting premise and characters I could connect with.
I read it in bits and pieces over the course of several weeks, so I had the vague impression that it reminded me of OldSkool Doctor Who - like Genesis of the Daleks, where the characters seem to spend half their time being rescued, recaptured, and escaping again through the same foggy quarry - but if I read the whole thing straight through it might have had a greater sense of organic unity. Very much enjoyed, anyway.
